However, here is some basic information:
Jewish music by four extraordinary musicians and a voice like black velvet. They tell stories of life, love, suffering, survival - and the sheer joy of being alive.
Gefilte Fish? – A tasty morsel for lovers of Yiddish music.
The way to the heart is through the stomach – and sometimes even through the ears … Gefilte Fish is one of the most popular Jewish dishes and it is also what a group of international musicians call their band. Their repertoire, a homage to the songs and melodies of the European Jews, ranges from old East-European Klezmer tunes and folk songs to Sephardic songs from southern Europe; from Israeli songs to Off-Broadway songs of 1920’s and 30’s New York. The word Klezmer arouses such varied expectations since it always was a conglomerate of different musical and personal styles, open to blending with other types of music – a multi-faceted genre with several avatars …
The Gefilte Fish line-up includes vocals, violin, accordion, guitar and contrabass. However, the band’s individual sound comes from their very special arrangements of both vocal and instrumental pieces. Each of the musicians has their own personal, musical history and style which they bring into this joint project. The harmonies, lines, fills and solos show elements of jazz, classical, chanson and so on, thereby creating a new idiom.
